Tonight starts the NFL preseason for my beloved Philadelphia Eagles. If you haven’t already figured out, I’m a big fan of football and Philly sports. Growing up in South Jersey (right over the Tacony Palmyra bridge into Philadelphia) we were taught to be passionate about things, especially sports. Believe it or not, New Jersey is split into “North” and “South” sections. Different teams, accents and even different “cities” (North Jersey considers their “city” to be New York). Philly is a hard working, blue collar city. People love their teams and the attitude in the city is driven by the success of them. Now you can see the reason we are so passionate about our sports. It’s part of who we are.
Why am I telling you this? Well because some of you might wonder what’s up with some of my tweets over the next couple of months. As footballs kicks in, you might hear a few statements that conflict with each other. One might talk about God’s love and His heart for His children while the next one might say that the New York Giants are the worst team in football. You might hear that I can’t wait for Sunday morning to get in God’s presence to worship Him while later in the day I might say that I wish Sunday would end since my Eagles lost and have let me down once again.
You might say to yourself, is Mark okay? Do two different people create his twitter feeds? Is he bi-polar? The answer is NO…it’s all me. Trust me, I will make it through this season okay. Even if our beloved “dream team” doesn’t make it to the promised land (super bowl winner) I’m going to live to fight another day (or in this case, another “season”). Don’t worry, as an Eagles fan I’m used to being let down. But this year is different…right Andy Reid?
So there you have it….you’ve been warned. I’m going to say things that don’t make sense together. “Come to our church’s harvest party” and “I wish Andy Reid would be traded” or “God is doing great things at our church” and “I can’t wait to run all over those cowgirls next sunday”. Yep…same guy….just giving you a heads up.
