Check out this new worship album from Carlos Whittaker.

Radical by David Platt

RADICAL by DAVID PLATT

I just got the new book from David Platt, Radical, in the mail last week. It could not have come at a better time. It seems like everything regarding challenging my thinking about church and Christianity has been showing up in front of me. The first chapter alone shows me how good this book can be. (check out the first chapter here).

I’m convinced that churches today are greatly missing the mark when it comes to how God designed church to be. If you read the book of Acts you discover quickly, that a lot of the things the early church did would be almost impossible for Christians and churches to do today. Why is that? What’s missing? This book exposes these things and causes us to go back to the “radical” teachings of the early apostles. I’m glad I got a chance to pick up a copy of this book.

The Radical Experiment involves five specific challenges to carry out over the span of a year:

  1. To pray for the entire world.
  2. To read through the entire Word.
  3. To sacrifice your money for a specific purpose.
  4. To give your time in another context.
  5. To commit your life to a multiplying community.

Does that challenge you? If so, pick up this book and continue to push yourself to become a better example of a Christ follower!

Love & War by John & Stasi Eldredge

When I got an opportunity to receive a copy of John Eldredge’s new book, LOVE & WAR, I was very interested. I had done the WILD AT HEART book study with our men’s group a few years ago. My wife is currently doing John & Stasi’s book, CAPTIVATING, for the women’s group. The one thing I like about the Eldredges is that they are generally very sincere and very passionate. I like that in a person and a writer.

LOVE & WAR is a marriage book and they candidly discuss their marriage and insights with the reader. You can clearly see that relationships and marriage is something that the Eldredges desire to help. Let’s face it, that’s something all of us need to work on. I recommend this book…

Here’s the book summary:

Summary: Love & War

What the Eldredge bestsellers Wild at Heart did for men, and Captivating did for women, LOVE & WAR will do for married couples everywhere. John and Stasi Eldredge have contributed the quintessential works on Christian spirituality through the experience of men and the experience of women and now they turn their focus to the incredible dynamic between those two forces.

With refreshing openness that will grab readers from the first page, the Eldredges candidly discuss their own marriage and the insights they’ve gained from the challenges they faced. Each talks independently to the reader about what they’ve learned, giving their guidance personal immediacy and a balance between the male and female perspectives that has been absent from all previous books on this topic.   They begin LOVE & WAR with an obvious but necessary acknowledgement:  Marriage is fabulously hard.  They advise that the sooner we get the shame and confusion off our backs, the sooner we’ll find our way through.

LOVE & WAR shows couples how to fight for their love and happiness, calling men and women to step into the great adventure God has waiting for them together. Walking alongside John and Stasi Eldredge, every couple can discover how their individual journeys are growing into a story of meaning much greater than anything they could do or be on their own.

Summary

His New York Times phenomenon The Prayer of Jabez changed how millions pray. Now Bruce Wilkinson wants to change what they do next.

Anyone can do a good deed, but some good works can only happen by a direct intervention from God. Around the world these acts are called miracles—not that even religious people expect to see one any time soon. But what would happen if millions of ordinary people walked out each morning expecting God to deliver a miracle through them to a person in need? You Were Born for This starts with the dramatic premise that everyone at all times is in need of a miracle, and that God is ready to meet those needs supernaturally through ordinary people who are willing to learn the “protocol of heaven.”

In the straightforward, story-driven, highly motivating style for which he is known, Wilkinson describes how anyone can be a “Delivery Guy” from heaven in such universally significant arenas of life as finances, practical help, relationships, purpose, and spiritual growth.

You Were Born for This will change how readers see their world, and what they expect God can do through them to meet real needs. They will master seven simple tools of service, and come to say with confidence, “I want to deliver a supernatural gift from God to someone in need today—and I expect to!”
