City Prayer

I’m excited about being a part of some powerful city prayer over the next few Tuesday nights leading up to Sept 11 (from 7pm-8pm). This September 11th is the 10 year anniversary. Thompsons Station Church is hosting these prayer nights under the organization of AWAKENING AMERICA and “Cry Out America”. They have already done 2 nights but have quite a few more to go. Each Tuesday night will be led by a different local pastor. My night to lead is coming up on August 2nd. I hope we can see all of you come out for an hour to pray with other local Christians. One hour goes by fast and think of all the power that will be coming from a room full of people, from different denominations and backgrounds, lifting up our families, our city and our nation. It’s going to be good!

Culture of Honor

Some points from my message on Sunday.

-Honor is a lost art. We will protect ourselves and our reputation before we honor someone else and serve them.

-Religion has taught us to honor those that we respect and that are like-minded.
The Word tells us to honor everyone including those that persecute us and are in low positions (the unlovely).

-People get nervous about honoring people with issues. Don’t we need to punish them? Jesus still was who He was no matter who He was with.

-Honor is cultivated and not automatic. In most cases it’s not natural….especially in this day and age. We are taught it’s okay to disrespect people that are wrong, not our same political party, age, race, denomination, etc. God’s Word tells us otherwise.

-Honor is mandated not an option. (Galations 5:26 / Romans 13:7)

-I see so many people complain about not getting respect when they do not live a life of respecting others.

-We Honor God as we Honor others.

-We need to celebrate Honor and continue to encourage an environment that fosters it.

-We need to start celebrating WINS not defeats.

-We need to start honoring peoples’ callings and destinies rather than keep looking back at their past.

-We need to celebrate people trying rather than demanding success every time.

-We need honor people before us, rather than trying to exalt passing fads.

-We need to get excited for salvations and deliverances instead of celebrating death.

-We need to honor people’s decisions with faith and love rather than gloating in “I told you so”.

Your Kingdom of POWER and LOVE

Last Sunday I talked about walking in God’s Kingdom power and His love on this Earth. Our main scripture is

Matthew 6:10

10 your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

There is such power in that scripture right there. But how do we work in God’s Power? Let me give you my list from Sunday:

1-IT STARTS WITH LOVE

If we want to yield to God (the author of Power) we have to yield to Love…

1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Jesus’s love for people gave Him the power to heal…

Matthew 14:14
When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

Love is actually the greatest manifestation of God’s Power. Love is what motivates our Faith.

Galatians 5:6
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

2-FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 16:7-15
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate (Holy Spirit) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. 12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to communicate to us and give us His Power. He’s our source. So are you hearing him>>>

3-DEVELOP HEARING GOD’S VOICE

Even Jesus listened to God’s Voice…

John 5:30
By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

John 5:19
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.

He speaks in so many ways…many times we hear Him but we CHOOSE to ignore. Some of us don’t hear Him because we aren’t hanging with Him…>>>

4-BECOME FAMILIAR WITH GOD’S PRESENCE
(hang out in it)

You are who you hang out with.
Even Jesus knew He needed to associated Himself with others to receive the power from God…Jesus had John the Baptist to help pray in the next level on the God’s presence on His life.

Matthew 3:13-17 (Jesus gets baptized)
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Anointing = the sense of the presence of the Spirit of God upon a person that allows them to do what Jesus did.
You can get the anointing by putting yourself in places where God is moving (slowburn, prayer nights, worship nights) – “Corporate Anointing”

5-LEARN TO PRAY AND WORSHIP

These are tools God has given us to experience His power and love in our lives.

*YOU WILL NOT WALK IN TRUE POWER IF YOU ARE ASHAMED TO WORSHIP OR PRAY. These are your tools to power. ( also FASTING)

6-GROW IN FAITH (IN ACTION)

James 2:20
You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

It’s easy to say your have “faith” it’s harder to walk in it….

7-IT’S NOT YOU IT’S ME

It’s TRUE….it’s GOD not YOU.

Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,

It’s time to walk in His Power and His Love to see this world completely changed for His glory….are you ready?

Are you Tasting?

Wendesday night at our Prayer Night, God spoke through me the words from Psalm 34:8

Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

The word was given as a reminder that we need to continually “taste” of His goodness and love for us. Tasting, for most of us, involves us eating foods we like. Whether it’s Mexican, Italian, seafood, desserts, whatever, we will always gravitate to what we enjoy or are used to. I know some people that will only eat at a certain type of restaurant. They become familiar with it and enjoy the taste.

The word that God spoke on Wednesday was to taste and see that HE is good. The word “taste” and the word “see” are action words. They require us to do something. God is saying to His people, start tasting more of Him than relying on the old and familiar ways of your past. The new wine that God is pouring out on His people will require us to “drink”. God doesn’t force feed His people. Luke 5:37-38 says…

37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.

Are you trying to taking what God is doing today and hold it under the microscope of yesterday? God’s goodness and actions cannot be limited to what we think He should do and even what we are comfortable with. Those old ways will burst under the pressure of the new. We must “taste and see” of His goodness everyday. Stop trying to figure out God. Stop trying to tell Him what He can or cannot do. Don’t limit His power with your hangups or religious ideas. Stop telling Him how and when to minister.

God is telling His people to really tap into Him. Don’t just tell stories of how He did great things in the past, experience Him now, so you can tell testimonies of what He is doing today! If all you do is complain about church, Christians, life, family, job….maybe you aren’t truly tasting His goodness today? You are probably living off of the old wine and it’s time to start tapping into the new.

Are you TASTING of Him?
