The REAL You

Last week I posted THIS

I had our leaders all do the same thing and we got a chance to know 25 things about each person we might not have known about them before. It was fun to find out we had a potential farmer, choir singers, recording artists, someone who worked on the OJ Simpson trial, puerto ricans (my wife being one of them), clean freaks, ex-smokers, ex-rollerskaters, a David Matthews Band groupie,  tattooed people, non-tattooed people, a person that drank a Coke with Tom Hanks, an ABBA fan, a shoe collector and an old record collector on our team. Who knew?

Here’s the great thing about it…this helps build RELATIONSHIPS.

It’s amazing how hard it can be for people to list things about themselves. Some people struggle with it for days. Others knock it out in 5 minutes. The point is, other people ENJOY getting to know more about you. They love the fact of having info that others might not know. That’s what forms bonds and relationships. Now think about how many people/leaders in churches fail to do this, either out of insecurity or fear of people knowing “too much” about you. The funny thing is, most of us have the same issues, problems, or concerns, but we are afraid to share them. We think we are the only ones struggling or have a “shady” past.
Allowing people to know the “real you” is a HUGE way to tear down walls in people’s lives. I can guarantee once you let someone get to know you, they can share parts of themselves much easier than before. People want to truly know you mean what you say about caring about them or wanting to build relationships.

Don’t let your fears, insecurities or busyness stop you from sharing your “stories” with others. You never know when your “story” can help somebody walk through the same thing in their life, encourage them or just make them laugh.

SouthView’s 3rd Preview Service

I’m excited about this Sunday’s 3rd preview service @ the Fun and Party Zone. I’m going to be sharing and breaking down our Vision and Values for SouthView. It’s not just a bunch of words but things that I feel God has called our church to focus on. Most of these values burn deep in my heart and I’m pumped about sharing them to our people.

We also will be having some dear guests share at our service. Ps Charles and Jane Curtis will be updating our church on their transition to Singapore and sharing photos. Not only is Ps Charles a mentor of mine but also a good friend. I’m looking forward to this and I know you will be blessed by their story.

So come and check us out this Sunday @ 10am…

Family vs Church

This post is for me as much as it’s for anyone reading it. Just a simple reminder about the priorities in our lives.

“Remember, the most important ministry in your life is not at your church, it begins when you get home and walk through the doors. Everything else pales in comparison.”
- Jeff Henderson

…and what a great ministry that is!
