TABOO

National Geographic - Taboo

Last night I was watching a show on National Geographic called TABOO. Very interesting show. Its main point is to show what certain people around the world will do that is “taboo” in most cultures.

Here’s the description from their website:

“Taboo takes you on a journey beyond the comfort zones and across cultural borders to explore rituals and customs that are acceptable in some cultures, but forbidden, illegal or, reviled in others. Understand seemingly bizarre and shocking practices from around the world.”

The show I watched, “SUPREME DEVOTION” focused on how much pain people will inflict on their bodies for their god/s. I watched this show and marveled at the lengths at which people will go to prove themselves to their so called “gods”. I was amazed that people will shed their own blood in order to find acceptance and forgiveness from a higher being.

As I watched this I was so thankful that Jesus’ shedding of blood washed away ALL of my sins (past, present and future). No amount of outward express of pain or physical torment will get me a better seat in Heaven. In fact, it says in the word of God that it’s not by works or the things that I do that has saved me. The only one thing that can save me is belief in Jesus Christ as my Savior.

Isn’t it amazing that it’s not what we do but what HE has done that earns us the right to spend eternity in Heaven. I was amazed how people will go to any length to secure a successful life (on this earth and beyond) when all they need to do is give their life over to Jesus.

We truly serve an amazing God. He not only loves us tremendously but also makes it so much easier to serve Him. That alone should make you want to spread the gospel of Christ to your neighbors, friends and family. Imagine a world where people realize it’s not about what they do but it’s all about what HE did!

Thank you Jesus!
